Byrdie’s Pottery
936 St. Roch Ave
New Orleans, LA, 70117
Accessibility Info:
The first room in our space (which includes the shop & lounge area) has one step up outside the front door, with a wheelchair accessible permanent metal ramp. There is a wheelchair accessible restroom. We can pop up a folding table for handbuilding with clay for a class or special event if communicated beforehand.
The classroom & member room are up 3 steps with a railing. We do not currently have a way for these areas to be accessed via wheelchair. This is something we’re actively brainstorming on and welcome input!
We are happy to make accomodations, please reach out :)
We’d love to hear from you! But first, check the FAQs:
Q: How can I become a member?
A: Fill out the membership waitlist. We will reach out if and when a spot becomes available!
Q: How do I sign up for classes?
A: The best way to be informed about upcoming classes is to add your e-mail address to our mailing list (at the top of this page!), which we use to announce classes and special events. Our classes fill up very quickly, so being on the email list is truly the best way to be notified about class openings. Please do not email us asking when classes will be announced.
Q: When are you open? I’d like to come buy some pottery.
A: We are open Fridays 3-6p, Saturdays & Sundays 12-6p. You can come peruse the shop and see what our members make! We do not have open studio hours for people to drop in and work with clay. The best way to come do clay with us is to sign up for a class.
Q: Do you sell clay?
A: As of 10/7/25 we no longer sell clay to the public. Clay is only available to Byrdie’s members and currently enrolled students. You can always buy clay at Alligator Clay in Baton Rouge or from our friends at Clay Center New Orleans.
Q: I make pottery at home, is it possible to fire my work in Byrdie’s kilns?
A: Check out the Satellite Membership option on our Membership page! We have a limited number of satellite member spots available, but will reach out if something opens up.
Q: I have a commission request, can I email it to you?
A: Sure! We are happy to pass along commission requests to our wider network of ceramicists, though can’t make any promises that someone will take you up on it. You can describe your project in the below contact form and we’ll forward it along.
Q: I would like to schedule a private class, how do I do that?
A: Check the “Private Classes” section of our website!
